New owner 220 coupe

Hi there
I'm an expat living near Barcelona in Spain.
Hopefully I'll become the owner of a Rover 200 in the coming weeks. I've been tracking down one that I like after quite a lot of research.

I nearly bought the unliked (here) Rover 25 2.L diesel (my 2000) last week, but the owner didn't get it MOTd in time, and that's still pending.
Lovely blue with full beige leather seats....

The model I really want is the 220 coupe 1992-1995. I've found a BRG 1995 with 85000kms on it and plan to view it this week.
For me, it's the perfect model. Great looking, quite sporty and with the most reliable T series engine. At least that's what I've read!! Am I right?

There's a 1998 one near where I live too, but I really want to avoid the K series engines. Sorry!!

It's at the mechanic's so I should get a full report on what they've done and what needs doing. Asking 1950 euros which I'd hope to whittle down a bit.
I'm not a mechanic myself so will only be able to do basic checks.

So, if you think there are any special things to check, I'd appreciate that.
Thanks :)

Engine oil leaks, gearbox noises, working electrics (check the wiring harness between the body and the booitlid as the wires often fracture) and the exterior seals and lacquer if it's been out in the sun.

The 1.6 DOHC Honda engine was fitted to early cars too. They're fun but I guess they'd be rare...

Good luck :D

There are a few 216s both coupe or cabriolet but very high mileage or a bit tatty.
Gonna check out the 220 coupe tomorrow. According to the mechanic I phoned this morning, it's been given a full service...

More news tomorrow :cool

Back again, this time as the owner of the 220 coupe.
It has both keys with the original fobs, and they still even open the doors, :o

I can't pick it up yet as it needs a the wing mirror glass to pass the MOT.
Rimmer have despatched it, so at the earliest I wouldn't get it till the end of next week.

Looking forward to it.
In the meantime, I'll give the clud and forum a vote of confidence and join up ... :)

Thanks for the welcomes.
I'm now officially on-board.
The car is in my name and has passed the MOT and is getting a proper valetting...
I'm a paid up member, have uploaded some photos and have an avatar!!

Just got to drive up to the UK from Spain for the next AGM! :laughing2

Very nice! I particularly like the colour coded wing mirror backs :D

Tell me do they fold in toward the glass and click into a folded position?
