Austin/Longbridge 110 celebrations at Windsor Castle 2016

Post by GTiJohn »

I've received the attached file from A A Osborne (Former Works Historian, MG Rover Group
Founding Chairman of the Austin Federation) regarding a possible event for 2016.

2016 marks the 110th anniversary of the construction of the first Austin being completed in the
former White and Pike printing works at Longbridge. Until demolished (by BMW) in the late
1990s this was known as No.1 Shop and was located inside ‘K’ Gate which was the gate latterly
allowing entrance into the factory from the A38 roundabout.

An opportunity has arisen to have a Royal celebration of this part of Longbridge’s history,
organised by the Rotary Club of Windsor and Eton (District 1090) possibly following a similar
format to an MG event held in 2009 which marked the 85th Anniversary of that marque.

It is open to all Longbridge-related clubs, like ours.

This is a link to a previous, similar event - http://www.rotary-ribi.org/districts/pa ... ictNo=1090

You don't get many invites like this!

What is the interest amongst the club members?
I like Twin Cams, Single Cams, Turbos and 5-cam VVCs :cool

I reckon we should go for it. It will give the club some publicity which it could do with.

It is a great idea.

However, having received further information on this, it is likely to be rather expensive, with prices per car starting from £50 upwards (depending on the exact format of the event)

I might be interested - as a father of a family of 5, £50 could be worth the spend depending f course what's on offer.

If it's just to site in a field for a day then that's a different story.
