Thanks for your advice Dist. It was the wrong flywheel. The car now purrs.
I’m still having an intermittent starting fault and the car smells like it’s running very rich. Lambda aside, anything else that can cause this with the T16?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Starting issue after forged Rebuild
I assume you’d have the issue the other way around?

Starting issue after forged Rebuild
Hello everyone! Its been a while since i've posted, but I've slowly been rebuilding an engine for my 420 GSI Sport Turbo Conversion as the last one starved itself of oil and well......that was that! The new engine is forged internally, has the larger 2871 Turbo and a lightened flywheel. Now.....here...

Well, still love this car. It’s had everything it needs and has been very reliable! http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y444/Lukeyboy46/653F81BC-BEDC-4136-9AE2-15B8FEC3801B_zpsd7pf5xau.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y444/Lukeyboy46/F9BA2D18-34F1-4349-B56A-F2EFF5A2187E_zpsquhei0vc.jpg

Re: 420 GSI Sport Project
Scrap what I said about coolant circulation! It was a bit of an air lock! Its perfect now with a fresh ticket :) Took it up to Castleford and back 2 days ago, and it was a delight the entire way there and back! (Besides my starter motor feed wire popping off) I think it also surprised a few people! ...

Re: 420 GSI Sport Project
Thanks guys, I didn't want to convert it really, if the orginal engine and gearbox would have held their oil and the gearbox not imploded, i'd have kept it original. The car externally still looks completely standard. And it now drives beautifully, I didn't realise just how bad that old box was unti...

Re: 420 GSI Sport Project
Well she's finished, I purchased the engine, gearbox, ecu and loom from a 1993 220 GTI on 80k miles that had been broken on ebay. It was almost a drop in conversion. The original gearbox actually let go in the end, so I figured by the time id paid for a recon and all the other bits I needed to do to...
