Re: Rover 214Si 3 Door Rubbing Strip Removal
The short piece on the front wing - exactly as Plodder says – unfasten the wheel arch liner to gain access. While you’re in there, it makes sense (if you don’t already do it) to clean out the silt and debris that collects inside the bottom of the wing. As for the rear quarter panel, it’s a lot of ye...

Re: Rover 214Si 3 Door Rubbing Strip Removal
Spot on. I know it's a bit of a faff removing the door trim, and (from memory) a bit of a faff removing the trim panel beside the rear seat, but it's well worth the time and effort to avoid damaging the strips. Anyway, while the trim panels are off it's an ideal time to do some rustproofing!

Re: 420 Si cutting ignition every once in a second
I've only once had a crankshaft sensor fail (on my 1995 R8). There was nothing intermittent, it just died - the car was running fine, switched it off, went to restart and nothing. I have had a similar issue with the car literally cutting out for a fraction of a second. It got much worse very quickly...

Re: Breathalyised.
One evening (a few decades ago), I was driving my Triumph 1500 along the Old Durham Road in Gateshead when I was pulled over by one of the boys in blue. He asked if I’d been drinking, as my driving seemed a bit erratic and I was wandering around a bit. I was surprised to hear this and no, I hadn’t b...

Re: Reduce Vehicle Excise Duty by 50%
Exactly. For the same tax you could be running a 2 ton 6.75 litre Royce, which is crazy. The 1549cc changeover point does seem a bit arbitrary.
From the VED point of view there's no incentive to keep a 1.6 on the road, so hats off to all those who do.

Re: Reduce Vehicle Excise Duty by 50%
Signed. Good idea, and a well presented argument. Far too many sound, usable vehicles with many more miles of life left in them have been lost to short sighted scrappage schemes. From many perspectives, it makes sense to keep an existing vehicle on the road - the fact that so many of us are running ...

Re: Press for removing suspension bushes
When it comes to pressing out a bush you obviously need enough space underneath the arm to clear it as it comes out. It doesn't look like you'd have that with the press you've shown. I've just rebushed my upper rear links using one of these, widely available on ebay for around £60. 6 Ton Hydraulic P...

Re: Engine electrical gremlins on R3 200vi
My own experience of CPS failure on a 95 214. The car was running fine, parked up for an appointment, came out after a while and it wouldn't start. Cranking over but not firing at all. I looked at various things and, running out of options, swapped the crank sensor (I always carry a spare!) and that...

Re: Front Roll Bar Clamp nut broken lose!
For the 1600 with power steering it looks like the front beam is KGC10191 and the rear is KGC10084 (1989-92). For later cars (92-96), the front beam for the four door is KGC10250 and the rear is the same, so it looks like the rear beam from a later car should fit, but it would be good to get feedbac...
