Hello,
Is there any known alternative to the standard coolant reservoir?
Mine looking a bit dodgy - the metal ferrule in the bottom hose fitting has corroded and is bulging the plastic.
Is there any other known fitment, as I cant seem to find an original for sale?
I did look at fitting one from a Discovery 300tdi (because I happen to have one on the shelf), but it's a bit too tall to fit in the OE location.
What have people done?
I will be fitting the Freelander stat conversion too...
TIA,
Cheers,
Mike.

I have good early ones here and later ones with low coolant sensors if thats any help if ally is corroded then the coolant must have not been changed much

Re: 214 (R8) coolant reservoir.
Oops - only just noticed typo in Subject line!
Yup. Car was parked for a long period with dubious coolant mix installed.
Pity really, as the rest of the car is in amazing "Barn Find" condition.
Coolant pipe at back of engine is US (also previously repaired)
Water pump was a fabulous rusty mess, as was the thermostat.
Lots of crud in the coolant passages - I suspect from coolant mismatch (we have seen this before - when coolants are mixed, they often crystallise).
Head has corrosion damage on front elbow join (we have had that welded up - we repair classic cars all the time, so this sort of repair is business as usual for us).
Coolant hoses fabulously crunchy!
I've got the coolant hoses and stainless coolant pipe on order.
I keep the grey low temp Freelander stat in stock (we use them on the TD5's).
Not 100 percent sure if this engine will be OK - but for the cost of the gasket and bolts, we will give it a shot.
Does the later R25 coolant tank fit the earlier R8 214?
That would be a nice upgrade.
If not, I'm up for a good coolant tank - what do you charge and where are you?
(I'm coming to the UK in 10 days for the classic car show at the NEC, so we could sort something out).
TIA,
Mike.

You can up grade to the later system which I have done you need later radiator with temperature sensor aperture and a set of later hoses and I option to move the washes bottle but that up to you on one car I've gone the whole hog but one my sei I've made do that you can easily revert back to standard no extra hole etc .
I have both early and later hoses used but in Good Condition.
NEC may be possible I said I wasn't going but I think that going to change .
Below is from a thread I did early this year .

Today little job was to replace rear coolant rail with a reconditioned one but i when I saw the bottom metal pipe I decided to junction to lot and go for a bigger radiator , that gets rid of the bottom pipe better idea I think and later coolant warning expansion tank and no drilling or permanent modifications so could back to standard if ever sold on , as you can see from pictures below it was on borrowed time

And one that's as gone the whole hog so moved washer water bottle under drivers front wing as later 200 or 25

Re: 214 (R8) coolant recevoir.
Ahh - I see how it fits now.
(For clarity in my response, Left and right are as viewed when sitting in the drivers seat looking forward...)
My car is LHD (so - no extra hassle there then!!!)
On the RHD 214, the washer bottle is tucked around the LH strut tower, and leaves space for the later coolant res next to it on the LHS of the car.
On the LHD, this is mirrored - the washer bottle is fitted on the RHS of the engine bay, but - it intrudes much more into the engine bay, as it is displaced by the brake bias valve on the RH strut tower, and I dont think I can fit the later reservoir next to it, as it will likely foul the intake manifold....
(Deep breath...)
Thanks for explaining that - I understand now.
I can definitely tuck a later coolant reservoir where the screen wash res is, but I have to relocate the screen wash res.
I'm starting to think I'll just go for a good used reservoir...
I make non-contact coolant level alarms that we fit to Land Rovers, and I can fit one of these to the original coolant res.
I'm over to do a bunch of purchasing and go to the NEC - we could meet up to exchange. drop me a PM.
