Exhaust Info needed

Post by Axorman »

Evening,

I have an October 92 registered 216 GTI DOHC, it's a 5 door, in need of a centre exhaust box, needed as MOT in January and it's started blowing, any help in locating one or part numbers would be helpful, struggling to find online

Thanks

I have 1990 216 GTI DOHC and tried last year, all sources are NLA on mid section, you may have more luck with back box from a secondary supplier but Klarius the biggest EU manufacturer said will these not be re manufactured ever. In the end I had a garage weld and plate mine, should last 20 years as only used in summer and garaged all year
You could go SS route - that is an option others have taken.

Good luck

I’d get a stainless steel bespoke one made up. Try Longlife.co.uk

Could you use the later (catalyst type) mid section, using a 'decat' pipe to make up the difference in length?

Anyone got a pic of how it should look. I’ve got some new pipe work which might do the job.

This is the layout for an early 216 GTi 5 Door Exhaust, taken from Klarius' parts catalogue (No longer available from them):

Thanks, so limited options then, either try and get this one repaired, or go stainless.

As I need only the mid section, would using the shorter Cat mid section, and adding a section of pipe work?

As I can't do the work myself will speak to the garage that looks after my other car

Somebody's selling a centre section on Ebay that they say fits both the 216 GSi & 216 GTi. Their diagram looks different to John's photo though. Afraid I don't know the difference, or whether it is suitable.

I think that is for Single cam 1.6 in 3 door GTi, box might be in the wrong place to fit the 5 door.
