Rover 213 Vanden Plas

Post by Cornishknocker »

We have a 1984 213 (Its a proper miss bucket car!) Vanden Plas with 26,000 miles on the clock and 12 months mot, it's pretty tidy with a few small rust bubbles on the front panel, would there be much interest in this?

Yes, there is a small but enthusiastic following for the 'SD3' 213 and 216 and of course the Vanden Plas was top of the range.

Is it manual or automatic?

I have neither the space nor money for this but christ I love it.

Yes, I imagine there's interest.

Just had a look inside, it's 26,910 miles, what's bonkers is the service book is full with hundreds of miles between services! It's pretty clean inside but suffering from a saggy roof lining

How 'clean' is the MoT history?

The one big drawback of the SD3 was its tendency to rot by the time it reached 10 years old, more so than many other cars of the same era.

Sills, floorpans, bulkhead, rear inner and outer wheelarches. If these are all original, unrepaired and not in need of imminent repair, you have a rather desirable car there.

It's all absolutely original, corrosion is very limited (bit on the filler cover and a tiny bit on the panel above the radiator grille).

How my father in law came to own the car is he was a salesman at an Austin rover garage, and he used to collect the car from the owner for services, she went into care and asked him to look after the car in the 90s, when she died about 15 years ago she left him the car, he used it for a little while but other than that it's been garaged

I'm in love with this. Love an SD3, such a unique looking thing despite what it was based on.

If I did have my 75 tying up my only dry storage space I'd probs be trying to buy this off you.

What about a club car? Do we have such a thing?
What better car to have as a club car than an SD3 where it all started for the 200 series.
