VVC Transplant into 45

Post by Kriss707 »

Hi All,

Probably been covered somewhere on here, but I haven't found it.

Looking to Transplant a 1.8VVC from an MGF into a 2002 45 currently running a 1.4 K Series with a very noisy bottom end (phnarrr phnarrr)

Any info from anyone whose done this or a link to a thread would be great.

TIA 😃

I am surprised that you have not had any replies to this, Kriss.

I have never done it myself, but one thing that springs to mind is the gearbox and gearchange mechanism.

The VVC engine is mated to a Rover/Honda PG1 gearbox, while the 45 will have the Rover/Peugeot R65 gearbox.

Even if the R65 can be mated to the VVC engine and flywheel, I am not sure if it could handle the power/torque of that engine.

So assuming you will end up needing to use the PG1 gearbox from the MGF, you will need a compatible gearchange mechanism and driveshafts from a 1.8 petrol or 2.0 diesel Rover 45.

The MGF has electric power steering, so you will need to transfer all of the power steering pump and pipework over from the old 1.4 engine. Possibly aircon too?
I would think you would also have some wiring to sort out.

Good luck with the project and let us know how you get on :wink3

can't use the pg1 from the mgf but you do need one from a zr160 or vvc coupe or similar.

Shafts
exhaust
gearlinkages
engine loom
ecu
mfu in the engine bay
all needs be from a vvc

Why not all you need to do is change the release bearing arm?

Thanks for the replies.

We have pretty much the complete set-up from a 1998 MGF, 68,000mile Engine, Gearbox, Manifold/Downpipe, Driveshafts, Hubs, Brakes, Ecu & other boxes, Wiring looms, Starter, Alternator all attacked to a Metro Subframe.

A friend of ours was going to Transplant it into a Metro but his circumstances changed & it fell into our laps.

I will post some pics over the weekend.
