Let me introduce myself>
My name Is Maarten Kempen and i live in the Netherlands.
At my age of 65 years i have been running and driving British cars since 1978, in those days a matter of money.
Not my profession but got torn into repairing my own cars (a 10 years car was old then), in 1983 i bought my 1973 Austin 2200 (Landcrab ) that i still own and with wich we went to Gaydon this Year on the 24 of July celebrating its 60th birthday, my other classic is a Triumph Dolomite 1850HL from 1978.
When they where new I wanted a Rover Tourer Automatic (not knowing they where CVT) but over here in The Netherlands they where extremely pricely and above my limit that i set myself to.
This month i finally got my Platinum Rover 400 Tourer that was standing for a while at a garagist i know, where i Help a friend with his Humber Super Snipe Estate.
The Tourer is an CVT automatic of wich i read horrible stories. The last 15 years i only drove CVT equipped cars (Honda ,Suzuki) and love the easyness.
I must have had luck because it runs and changes gears? perfect albeit that when cold and putting in Drive you need to use the handbrake and foot firm on the brake pedal.
Cruising at 60 Mph and doing about 2600 rpm makes it a fine cruiser.
Minor rust on the body and panels, interior ok, only the Drivers door (LHD) interior panel has collapsed on top. Naturally the roof lining is sagging so that is one thing to get fixed.
It has MOT till 24 August 2024 and after a pre MOT the only things that needs done is a worn left front bearing and rear brakes have to much difference.
Anyone some good advice for the CVT to keep it running as it is now ?

Maarten Kempen

Re: New 400 Tourer owner
Welcome Maarten - you must be the gentleman I was chatting to (amongst a group of us with a BBQ!) at Gaydon!
The only advice I can give with the CVT is to change the oil regularly using the genuine CVT fluid - https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-XPT002002OF
I’m sure Damon en Kroes will be able to supply this.

Thanks, i remember you guys enjoying the hamburgers.
The Haynes Manuals i get for free from you are already used with info about changing front wheel bearings.

And to R8 CVT ownership
My understanding is that the weakpoint on the Van Dourne CVT is the clutch pack - Discount MG Rover Spares now stock these, so you might want to get one as a precaution.
( I call it the Umbrella Principle - take an umbrella and it won't rain but don't and...
I like Twin Cams.... and Single Cams...and now Turbos
Re: New 400 Tourer owner
I suspect in my car i hear those clutchplate springs rattling when cold.
Is it possible to lower the idle rpm?
