1995 216 instruments

Hi all, Trying to replace some blown bulbs in the instrument cluster. surround is off, 4 screws removed from dials but it only pulls out a few inches, not enough to dis connect wiring plugs. Am i missing something

Yes, assuming your car has the earlier dashboard (the change happened in 1995) it is very likely to be the speedo cable. (Later cars had an electronic speedo with no mechanical drive).

All of the earlier cars had a two part cable and the joint is in the engine bay near the fuel filter (follow the cable up from where it exits the gearbox and you will see the joint). There is a thumbwheel to unscrew which will then allow the joint to be pulled apart.

That will give you plenty of room to pull the instrument pack into the car, other than interference from the steering wheel!

Thanks fo the replies, my fault i wasn't expecting a speedo cable. Wish i had read your answer before i removed cable from gearbox end, still looking for the clip. When i find it can i attach to the cable first, before pushing cable into the box. Thanks again
