420 GSI Sport Project

Post by Lukeyboy46 »

Hello everyone, thought I'd start a project thread for my Rover 420 GSI Sport. It's a bit of a rare beast from what I understand, and it's in very good condition! It's been stood for the last 14 years in a nice warm garage but not turned a wheel.

I'm currently in the process of recommissioning the car for me to drive it as a daily. Service, tyres, brakes, timing belt etc.

Here's a few pictures before I've cleaned it, once it has a ticket and I've polished the hell out of it, I'll post a few more ;)

One nice white car with new shoes and a clean.

I'm going to have the little body work bits and pieces sprayed up at a body shop, and maybe replace the rear bumper.

Does anyone have a set of these alloy wheels going spare?

I'd like to recondition a set.

Here the thread is! I knew someone was asking about a set of alloys. This could be a cheap way to get some and you could recoup costs by parting out the rest of the car. http://www.rover200.org.uk/forums/viewt ... 13&t=10298

Thanks for that, actually a very tempting offer.....will have to see if I can find someone with a trailer.

I have sent the alloys I have in for refurb now, the car is on axle stands for the duration. Looking forward to getting them back.

Going to have the small areas of paint corrected in the next two weeks and she will be show stopping ;)

Bit of a random question, should this car have had a key fob for central locking?

It doesn't have one but doesn't seem to have any problems with alarms or immobilisers.

If you can see a dark 'lump' in the interior light lens, the car would have originally been supplied with an infra-red fob for the central locking and possibly an alarm. Is there an alarm LED in the middle of the instrument pack?
